After a life of dedication to working out, eating healthily and consciously good choices, a woman may choose to enhance her abdominal area. For some, this may be done through workouts and dieting, but others may need additional medical support through an abdominoplasty. This procedure, also known as a San Diego tummy tuck, is used to redefine an individual’s abdominal area and waistline. The end result is a flat, taut stomach.
As with many cosmetic surgeries, there is no one reason that an individual would choose to have an abdominoplasty. Regardless to what the reason may be, it is important that the right steps be taken before a procedure such as this is undergone. This will allow for a patient to be happy with the way she looks once fully recovered.
It is important to clarify that a tummy tuck is not meant to be a weight loss treatment. It is used to remove redundant, loose skin; it can restore abdominal muscles; it can improve and redefine the contours of this area and waistline; or it can address skin pleating that occurred from another incision. Women who have tummy tucks may want to have toned stomachs after having completed her family, and after she has gone back to her desired weight. Others still may have had a tummy tuck before, but are not happy with the end results and need to have a San Diego tummy tuck revision from the initial surgery. This could be months, or even years after the original procedure took place.
Regardless to the reason, the plastic surgeon who is to perform the plastic surgery should be aware of what the patient wants, and will do what he or she can to make sure the patient is happy and healthy after the procedure. The goal is to have a board certified San Diego plastic surgeon perform the procedure.
Not just anyone can have a tummy tuck surgery. A candidate must be healthy, have a clear understanding of what she wants from the procedure, must be aware of what will occur during the recovery process, and not have any medical challenges that could be problematic during the surgery or healing process. Because of this, some women may be advised to wait to have their tummy tuck -- if they are not sure that they have met their goal weight, or if the patient has been dealing with chronic illness, she might not be able to have the surgery immediately. This can be discussed with the plastic surgeon during an initial consultation, and a plan can be made to insure that the tummy tuck will be done at the optimal time.
Once the consultation has been done and the doctor is aware of what the patient wants from the abdominoplasty, the patient can begin preparing for the actual surgery. For women who have children at home, she might need to arrange for childcare during her recovery time, as she will be tender and sore for the first few days. Transportation to and from the procedure will also need to be arranged. In addition the surgeon will give postoperative care information to help the patient during the first few days of recovery.
This surgery can truly be transformational in an individual’s figure, but the recovery time will require the patient to show patience as she heals and develops the figure she wanted.
